Moreno Spirit
Located in the extreme southwest of the province of Santa Cruz, in Los Glaciares National Park, 80 km. from the city of El Calafate, is the Perito Moreno Glacier.
Unique for its beauty and grandeur, this enormous mass of ice is born in the Southern Ice Field and runs 30 km long until it reaches and ends in front of the Magallanes Peninsula. The height of its walls exceed 60 meters. above the level of the lake. It is common to see landslides (chunks of ice) of various sizes fall, producing noises comparable to the sound of thunder. The great phenomenon of rupture has made the Perito Moreno glacier known worldwide.
We depart every day from Puerto Moreno (located at the foot of the coastal walkways) over the Canal de los Témpanos. From there, our boat in seconds reaches the front of the north wall of the Perito Moreno glacier.
We stop for a while in front of the area where (every certain number of years) the famous glacier rupture occurs. Then we make a slow navigation in front of the entire width of the north wall. During the tour, you can appreciate the height of its walls, the extension of said wall and (if we are lucky and the glacier wants it) we can see beautiful landslides.
The guide of the boat makes an explanation about the glacier. He also assists the passengers throughout the navigation.
These departure times may be modified on the same day, either due to weather conditions or due to the availability of icebergs near the pier.
