Emerald Lagoon Trekking
A WALK WITHOUT EQUAL….
From Ushuaia we leave from the hotel by minibus by land (20 kms) to the Tierra Mayor valley.
From the Nunatak refuge and after equipping ourselves with crampons or snowshoes, we begin the walk, during which we cross large snow-covered valleys, frozen streams and centuries-old forests of Lengas and Coihues.
The route to the lagoon is approximately 4.5 km one way. Bordering the Esmeralda River we will arrive at the beautiful mirror of water of glacial origin, located at an altitude of 450 meters above sea level. Its name is due to the color of the sediments that derive from the Ojo del Albino glacier.
The Laguna Esmeralda is located in the heart of the Tierra del Fuego Natural and Landscape Reserve, its geographical location in the middle of the Fuegian mountain range invites us to stop, rest on its shores while we have lunch. Finally we start the return to the refuge by a different path from the one we left and later we return to the hotel.
